Through the conceptual lens of ORDER AND INTERDEPENDENCE,
students will develop an understanding that plants and animals have needs that
must be met in order to survive.
Habitats provide the basic needs of plants and animals that are adapted
to it. Students will learn that there is
an interdependent relationship between animals and their habitat.

Reporting Topic 6: Survival of Living Systems
All living things have basic needs. Habitats provide the basic needs for plants and animals.
Students will create a model of a habitat for a plant and animal which demonstrates how that habitat meets the organisms' needs. All living things are made of cells and have basic needs which are supplied by their habitats. Ecosystems are composed of multiple plants and animals in multiple habitats. Energy and matter flow through ecosystems via the food web.

Reporting Topic 7: Adaptations of Living Systems
Plants and animals adapt to changes in their habitat to survive. Living things adapt to their habitat and cooperate or complete with other living things to meet their needs. As their habitats change, plants and animals must adapt to that change or they will not survive.
